Saturday night's show was good ( esp. Mike's Groove ), but last
night
was OUT OF CONTROL! I don't recall the enire set list. They opened with
Runaway Jim - a great way to start off the evening. Trey was obviously
more
into it than Sat night. I think I even saw some drool during Llama (re:
article w/ Carlos on Trey ). They got out the megaphone for a slow Fee.
Also
included in the first set was Foam, and I don't remember the rest.
Between sets, some girls next to me from Milwaukee were doing Rush
and
passed out. More room to dance I guess.
The second set featured a stylin' Fluffhead, Aveinu Malkanu, Ball
Jam,
a HOT Suzy, Cavern and Stash. Fishman serenaded us with I sleep
horizontally
and all four of them treated us to another a capella (on top of the two
from
Sat night ). We felt the lifeforce (7 beats per second) and heard a very
solid Possum for an Encore.
A guy next to me was seeing Phish for the first time and didn't
know
that they did Aveinu Malkanu. Being Jewish, he absolutely flipped! I guess
I
looked Jewish too (good observation on his part) because he looked to me
an
screamed something about Kol Nidre, a Jewish service. Jewish aphishionados
unite!
There was some stage diving during Squirming Coil, but nothing
really
threatening.
I found a cushioned seat to dance on during the second set. Extra
bouncing power. I highly reccomend them if you have the means...

wubba wubba,

 Howdy Pholks!
Just got back a few hours ago from Chicago, oh boy, oh boy!
The shows were just fantastic! It was rough going for this
Phish Phreak on day one. I had a drastic ride change that had
me on the train Saturday afternoon, then I arrive and find
out my tickets for both nights were given to my housemate
over Thanksgiving and so I was out two tix for Saturday and
three for Sunday. Ooops. I got a ticket at the theatre, had
a great show, and found that my hair tie, one of my gloves,
and my sweater were all missing at the end. It wasn't what
I would call a good luck day.(It must have been Karmic punishment
for something I did). Day two and show two were the exact
opposite. The tickets came from Ann Arbor via a faxed copy
(the Vic gave us three small rectangle movie tickets as
subsitutes, which were honored without question at the door)
and i didn't lose anything. Now for show reviews:

Show #2
I enjoyed this show better than night 1 due to the song
selection. A first set Fluffhead, what else can I say. It
was great. I don't have the setlist fro this show in front
of me so I am going to forget stuff. The Antelope was so
intense that even with my earplugs in it was very loud. Some
kid had taken a poster of Jim Morrison and put 'Phish' on the
top and 'M. Gordon' under the picture. Trey picked it up
and hung it from Mike's rack. That brings up something-
there were a ton of teeny-boppers at these shows. I felt
old, and I'm only 22. It's too bad most of them find it more
entertaining to talk during songs than listen to them.
Anyway, set two was phuckin' great! Bathtub Gin was superb,
and The Curtain=>Stash was out there. Stash definitely
went into some new and previously unexplored territory.
After My Sweet One, Fish started a rhythm similar to My
Sweet One, but Trey shook his head and they segued into
an intense Sloth(my first finally). The You Enjoy Myself
was expected and fulfilling, and I heard "washing machine"
and a bunch of variations on this during the vocal jam.
Lengthwise is a great sing-along, and it is also very
cute. Fish was having a great time at both shows. And finally
there was Possum. Oh, my goodnes was it ever...well...
good. What can you say about a song where in the middle
you pause and recreate the Universal Life Force? You could
definitely feel it when they arrived at 7 beats per second.
And then the jam continued until I thought Trey just might
spontaneously combust and wither to a crisp. But thank goodNESS
he didn't.

All in all two fine shows, i can't believe I get to see two
more this week. See you netters at the Espresso Royale Cafe
before the show. Take care of those shoes-Brian

this show was unbelievably hot. jamming was much longer and more intense
than
saturday. page's piano was working, and so was he on a lot of jams.
first
set highlights for me were runaway jim, sloth, and fuffhead's travels
finishing with antelope. the jams on these were AMAZING. trey picked up
a
poster someone had put on stage of jim morrison and picked it up during
antelope, pointing to it when he said the spanish words during antelope
(what
is he saying there, anyway?). the second set's big ball jam was way too
short, because the crowd hit the balls up on stage ofter literally 25
seconds..very depressing. YEM was out of hand, and so was the vocal
meltdown,
although i couln't tell ya' for the life of me what they were saying. The
Man
Who Stepped Into Yesterday with avienu malkeinu in between was oh so
sweet.
Fish couldn't get the crowd to sing along with him for lengthwise, partly
because of some rude people screaming for no apparent reason. possum
smoked.
on a scale from one to ten this show was a
10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000!
not that anyone will read this whole description anyway, but i'll try
anyway..can anyone get me tapes from either or both of these shows? it
would
be very much appreciated. well, i've got finals that i need to study for.
later! -------richard benjamin caplan.....rcaplan@casbah.acns.nwu.edu
